An update from Uganda

Dear Family and Friends of TeensServe,

We got to see your kiddos this weekend!  We had a lot of fun hanging out with TeensServe at Garden City mall on Saturday and they all came over to our house on Sunday afternoon!

They are all LOVING their time in Uganda.  I can tell they are being challenged to view the world differently...seeing it through Jesus' eyes!  We had a really good discussion yesterday about knowing God's will for your life...what does that mean?  Does it mean you are happy and using your talents?  Or that sometimes you just choose joy because you're not exactly happy?  It was good for the adults to be able to give their input into that heartfelt question!

We had a lot of fun yesterday!  Most of the boys went up to a field near our house for a game of football with some kids that live around us!  The girls stayed in our courtyard and played card games, baseball, and hide-and-seek with our kiddos.  We munched on chocolate chip cookies (which I finally figured out how to make in Uganda!) and talked about their amazing week.

Being in the slums...walking through them and ministering to children there...has been an eye-opening experience.  They've seen poverty that is un-imaginable.  Families of 7 or 8 that live in a room that is smaller than most American bedrooms.  Children wearing clothes that are tattered and full of holes.  Streets that are full of sewage and trash...right outside of people's doors.

They are very excited about heading up to Gulu today (Monday).  They will be able to experience a whole other side of Uganda...very different from Kampala city-life.  Up north people still live in huts, there is no electricity or running water in some places, and people are still living with the effects of the war that tore this country apart for over 20 years.  They will also be able to see Murchison Falls and go on a safari!  It's gonna be a lot of fun!

Scott has uploaded several pictures from the past week on his facebook page.  Be sure to send us a  friend request (I've shared the pictures on my page, too) to be able to see pictures of your kiddos!

Just a warning:  our daughter came to Uganda with TeensServe in 2008 and now the rest of our family is serving Jesus in Uganda. Rodney and Clarissa are dangerous people to know {grin}.  God might just use them to change your whole life and send you to serve Him on a new continent.  If you'd like to keep up with our family and what God is doing in our lives (or you'd like to support His work here in Uganda) be sure to visit our blog: www.suubifamily.blopspot.com.

We'll update again if we hear anymore!

All for HIM,
Scott and Kelly Rackley
